Their latest work, "The Fray Is Back," is their first new release in ten years and marks a new chapter for the band following the departure of former frontman Isaac Slade in 2022. Vocalist/guitarist Joe King, guitarist Dave Welsh, and drummer Ben Wysocki continue the band's legacy while exploring new artistic dimensions.

"The Fray Is Back" arrives ahead of the 20th anniversary of their debut album, "How to Save a Life," whose title track spent 58 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. The new EP emerged from a collaborative process where the band members worked remotely. King explains that they had no definitive expectations for the new material and simply shared ideas, which became a unifying force. This EP is significant as it marks the first time King, the band's longtime lead songwriter, delivers his introspective lyrics personally. Co-produced by The Fray with Andrew DeRoberts, Ryan Linvill, and Joe London, the six-song effort reflects the band's revitalized creative energy.

Wysocki notes that before their hiatus, the band didn’t feel the need to change their successful formula. However, this time, they allowed themselves more freedom, making the process feel like a collaborative art project. The EP opens with "Angeleno Moon," a soulful anthem inspired by King's nostalgic visit to his old Los Angeles neighborhood. Throughout the EP, King transforms subtle moments into emotionally impactful songs. "Same Thing" explores breaking free from self-limiting patterns, while "Not Now" meditates on fractured relationships and the passage of time, inspired by a personal experience King had in New York City.

The EP continues with the euphoric "Don’t Look Down," the folk-tinged "Time Well Wasted," and concludes with "Known You Always," a piano-driven reflection on loss and acceptance. The Fray is known for their exhilarating live performances and looks forward to bringing their new songs to life onstage during a national headline tour this fall. Welsh highlights the intense stories fans share about how their music has affected them, and the band aims to honor that bond in every performance.
